There are several different genres that we might associate with "The Revolutionist." First, it clearly has an adventurous element to it: The comrade has narrowly escaped physical danger and is undertaking an uncertain journey through Europe, which comes to include jail time in Switzerland. If that doesn't sound like adventure, then, well, we don't know what does.

As for the historical fiction genre, "The Revolutionist" is set in a particular historical setting—postwar Italy—in which political turmoil is thick in the air. The comrade's experiences—his escape from Budapest, his journey through Italy, and his hope for a world revolution—are very much tied to this period in history. But everything else is made up. So, there's a little bit of history and a little bit of fiction in the mix.

Finally, though the story does not take place during the war, it is, arguably, a war drama since the comrade's experiences are part of the fallout of World War I. We simply don't have these eight paragraphs to read without World War I.
