CLAT 2021 Exam Analysis

• The CLAT exam was conducted by the Consortium of NLUs on July 23 from 2:00-4:00 PM. The CLAT 2021 exam was held similarly to last year. However, the NLU Consortium changed the question paper format. Unlike last year, this year candidates had to appear for the law exam in offline mode as a pen-and-paper-based test. The CLAT question paper for UG courses contained 150 passage-based objective-type questions for 150 marks. Candidates had to attempt the paper in two hours. There was also a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. 
• The majority of the students who appeared for the CLAT exam found the paper lengthy. The overall difficulty level of the exam was easy to moderate.

English

• There were a total of six passages and 30 MCQs in the section
• The questions asked in the section were easy.

GK including Current Affairs

• There were total of seven passages and 35 MCQs in the section
• The questions asked in the section were moderately to difficult
• Many questions were also based on static GK.
• Similar to CLAT 2020, the majority of passages in CLAT 2021 focused on international affairs and were sourced from current events. 
• The GK section was lengthy for those who needed to read the passages, although many questions could be answered without doing so as the answers were not directly related to the passages.

Logical Reasoning

• There were a total of six passages and 30 MCQs in the section
• The questions asked in the section were of easy to moderate level
• Some students especially found the Logical Reasoning section lengthy
• There were many passages on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legal Reasoning

• The section contained the maximum number of passages and MCQs
• There were a total of eight passages and 40 MCQs in the section
• The questions in the section were easy to moderate
• Some students faced difficulty in interpreting the meaning of the questions

Quantitative Techniques

• As last year, the section contained the least number of passages and MCQs
• There were a total of three passages and 15 MCQs in the section
• Among all the sections, Quantitative Techniques were the easiest to attempt.
• Among the three sets, the COVID-related set was the easiest as the questions were straightforward. 
• The age-based block involved simple percentage calculations, while the set on the profit of two companies required a basic understanding of percentage change. 
• However, it is worth noting that there were ambiguities in the Quant section, as some assumptions had to be made to solve certain questions, which should have been explicitly mentioned. Overall, the difficulty level of the section was moderate.
