IOT has had an impact across all fields, be it industries, government, small or large businesses and even for Personal Consumption.

What is IOT (Internet of things) you might ask. It’s been a growing topic of conversation for some time now. Put in the simplest term it means anything that has an on and off button and is connected to the internet for receiving, analyzing, storing or sending data. This could mean anything, from the watch that you wear to airplanes that can be controlled from a remote location. According to the analyst firm Gartner, by the year 2020 we’ll have over 26 billion connected devices. That could mean people to people, people connected to things and things connected to things. The new rule of the future is going to be “Anything that can be connected will be connected”. Take for example that when you set an alarm to wake up and that alarm goes off it not only wakes you up but also brews your coffee, sets the right temperature of water for your bath, puts on the television to bring you the latest updates from around the globe and all this before you even put a foot out of your bed. This is all done by simply getting the network of interconnected things/devices that have embedded sensors, network connectivity, software and necessary electronics that collect and exchange data.     To show how far we have come with technology and connectivity, we have smart watches such as Fitbit, Garmin to name a few that have changed the way we look at time. We have one device that not only tells us the time but also tracks the number of steps, calories and our heart rate. This watch is actually connected to our phone so with just one turn of the wrist one can tell who is calling or what messages have been received without having to dig through pockets or handbags.
IOT is making its presence felt in health care as well. Doctors can now remotely monitor and communicate with their patients and health care providers can benefit from this. Whether data comes from foetal monitors, electrocardiograms, temperature monitors or blood glucose levels, tracking this information is vital for some patients. Many of this requires follow up interaction with healthcare professionals. With smarter devices that deliver more valuable data it can reduce the need for direct patient- physician interaction.
Take for instance in the sporting field, minute chips are being attached to balls and bats which will transmit information of how  fast the ball is travelling and a batsman’s moves, the time, the angles, the pressure on the bat at different positions, data of the muscle stretch if he’s hit a six so on and so forth.
Formula one cars are also being fitted with these sensors which relays information on the minute moves being made by the driver. Chips are also being put into wearable devices of sportsmen to detect  suboptimal action of any body parts to show signs of stress or strain which will help in the early detection of injuries and take preventive measures.
IOT has had an impact across all fields, be it industries, government, small or large business and even for personal consumption. IBM, Google, Intel, Microsoft and Cisco are some of the top players in the IOT spectrum.
With billions of devices connected security becomes a big issue. How can people make sure that their data is safe and secure? This is one of the major concerns in the IOT that becomes a hot topic. Another issue is with all these billions of devices sharing data companies will be faced with the problem of how to store, track, analyse and make vast sense of the information being generated. Companies are monitoring the network segment to identify anomalous traffic and to take action if necessary.
Now that we have a fair understanding of IOT let’s see what impact it’s had on the education sector. The only constant in our lives is change and learning. From the get go we learn, be it to the walk, talk or run.
We adapt to the changing times and constantly learn from it. Education or learning as we know it in the broader sense is the most important of all and the one that decides which way we handle those changes to impact us and the world.
Today’s world is fast paced and to keep up with this we need an infusion of speed with learning. From the classroom assignments, lectures, blackboards and chalk we have come a long way to what is now known as e-learning (electronic learning) or m-learning (mobile learning). With the GenNext it is imperative to provide the right kind of education.
The rise of technology and IOT allows schools to improve the safety of their campuses, keep track of resources and enhance access to information. It ensures data quality being the top priority but also facilitates development of content allowing teachers to use this technology to create smart lesson plans and ensuring the reach of this content to any corner of the world.

Technology and IOT has benefited education considerably because it has:

A steamer takes 36 minutes less to travel 36 miles downstream than to travel the same distance upstream. If the speed of the steamer in still water is 6 miles per minute the speed of the stream (miles per minute) is:
  • a)
  • b)
  • c)
  • d)
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

Let speed of the stream be x.
Rate downstream = 6 + x
Rate upstream = 6 – x
⇒ 6 + x – 6 + x = 36 – x2
⇒ 2x = 36 – x2
⇒ x2 + 2x – 36 = 0
By Sridharacharya's formula, roots of quardatic eq. ax2 + bx + c = 0 will be
Here, a = 1, b = 2 and c = −36

What has been a significant concern regarding the trade agreement between India and the UAE?
  • a)
    Decrease in precious metals imports
  • b)
Increase in tariff rates on luxury goods
  • c)
Surge in imports of precious metals with zero tariffs
  • d)
    Limitations on technology imports
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

One major concern raised about the trade agreement between India and the UAE is the significant increase in imports of precious metals, including gold, silver, platinum, and diamonds, with zero tariffs. This surge in imports has sparked worries about potential revenue losses, a shift in import business dynamics, and issues related to meeting Rules of Origin conditions for concessions. The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) has highlighted these concerns, pointing out implications for the trade balance and the market dynamics between the two countries.

The Government has enacted a comprehensive and a more stringent new law, namely, the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015 that has come into force w.e.f. 01.07.2015. Apart from prescribing more stringent penal consequences, this law has included the offence of willful attempt to evade tax etc. in relation to undisclosed foreign income/assets as a Scheduled Offence under the Prevention of Money-laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA). Money laundering is concealing or disguising the identity of illegally obtained proceeds so that they appear to have originated from legitimate sources. It is frequently a component of other, much more serious, crimes such as drug trafficking, robbery or extortion.
The Government has taken pro-active and effective steps whenever any credible information has been received with regard to black money stashed abroad, whether in HSBC cases, ICIJ cases, Paradise Papers or Panama Papers.
These steps include constitution of Multi Agency Group in relevant cases, calling for definitive information from foreign jurisdictions, bringing the black money to tax under relevant law launching prosecutions against the offenders etc. India has been a leading force in the efforts to forge a multi-lateral regime for proactive sharing of Financial Information known as Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) which will greatly assist the global efforts to combat tax evasion. The AEOI based on Common Reporting Standard (CRS) has commenced from 2017 enabling India to receive financial account information of Indian residents in other countries.
India has also entered into information sharing agreement with the USA under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) of USA. The exchanges under FATCA have taken place for the financial years 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Indian Government has been proactively engaging with foreign governments, for exchange of information under Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAAs)/Tax Information Exchange Agreements (TIEAs)/Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters/South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Multilateral Agreement. Thus, Action against black money is an on-going process.
Such actions include policy-level initiatives, effective enforcement action on the ground, putting in place robust legislative and administrative frameworks, systems and processes with due focus on capacity building and integration and mining of information through increasing use of information technology.

Directions: Read the passage and answer the question that follows.
The National Games in Gujarat are set to make a grand statement on the state's capability to host mega sports events. With the budget increased to a staggering Rs. 2,000 crore for refurbishment of venues and other infrastructure, the Games look ready to roll. While the sporting benefits will be seen only in a long-term trickle down, a spectacle is immediately assured. India has had a couple of memorable National Games prior to this one. The infrastructure created at Balewadi in Pune and Gachibowli in Hyderabad has served the modest target of remaining useful. Hopefully, Ahmedabad will do better.
Seen as a part of the lead-up to the Gujarat Assembly elections, the hurriedly put-together event might well deliver, like Indian wedding planners do, but the timing hasn't exactly been ideal. In the absence of a university structure of competition or a truly significant open nationals in individual sports, however, the National Games with its magnanimous pouring in of funds, can be an important nudge for elevating domestic sport. It is the responsibility of organisers now to make returns on this investment count in truly sporting terms.
The Games could be a great opportunity to expose players on the second rung to the pressure of performing in front of spectators, not just for dragging half-hearted elite athletes through a week of easy strolls-in-the-park. No one doubts India's capacity to pull off the grand spectacle, but sport needs seriousness and commitment to host the Games — even if not so grand and costly — year after year.

Ojasvi Mehta answered
The author contends that the National Games hold substantial potential for players, despite the disappointment of the previous two editions not meeting expectations. To unlock this potential, the author calls for organizers to invest significant effort and dedication into making these events a regular occurrence, as evidenced by the phrase "year after year" in the passage's closing line. Option B best encapsulates this perspective.
Option A is limited to expressing an opinion presented in the first paragraph and does not capture the central idea.
Option C addresses a secondary point about the benefits the National Games can offer players, specifically by providing exposure to performing in front of spectators.
Option D pertains to a minor detail mentioned in the passage, concerning the National Games' connection to the Gujarat Assembly elections.

An old man with steel-rimmed spectacles and very dusty clothes sat by the side of the road. There was a pontoon bridge across the river and carts, trucks and men, women and children were crossing it. The mule drawn carts staggered up the steel, bank from the bridge with soldiers helping to push against the spokes of the wheels. The trucks ground up and away heading out of it all. The peasants plodded along in the ankle deep dust. But the old man sat there without moving. It was my business to cross the bridge, explore the bridgehead beyond and find out to what point the enemy had advanced. I did this and returned over the bridge. There were not so many carts now and very few people on foot, but the old man was still there.
"Where do you come from?" I asked him.
"From San Carlos," he said, and smiled.
That was his native town and so it gave him pleasure to mention it and he smiled.
"I was taking care of animals," he explained. "Oh," I said, not quite understanding.
"Yes," he said, "I stayed, you see, taking care of animals. I was the last one to leave the town of San Carlos." He did not look like a shepherd nor a herdsman and I looked at his black dusty clothes and his gray dusty face and his steel rimmed spectacles and said, "What animals were they?"
"Various animals," he said, and shook his head. "I had to leave them."

Directions: Read the following passage and answer the question.
The Madras High Court has dismissed a case filed by a person challenging two consecutive orders passed by courts directing him to pay maintenance of Rs.5000 a month to his aged mother under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Order for maintenance of wives, children and parents).
Justice PN. Prakash said he did not find any manifest illegality in the order passed by a judicial magistrate court in Salem in 2012 and confirmed by a sessions court in 2014 while dismissing a revision petition preferred by the man under Section 397 of the CrPC (calling for records to exercise powers of revision). The judge pointed out that an order by a judicial or metropolitan magistrate for payment of monthly maintenance to parents, wife or children could be challenged by way of a criminal revision petition either before a High Court or a sessions court. After the petitioner moves a revision application before the High Court or the sessions court, no further application by the same person could be entertained by either of the courts. There was a specific bar on it under Section 397(3) of CrPC.
In an attempt to overcome such a bar, the present petitioner preferred an application before the High Court under Section 482 of the CrPC (inherent power of the High Court to prevent abuse of process of any court or to secure the ends of justice). Holding the course adopted by the petitioner as not maintainable, Justice Prakash said petitions under Section 482 could be entertained by the High Court only if there was a manifest illegality in the orders passed by the courts below. "In the present case, this court does not find any such illegality. The mother-son relationship is not disputed.Only the quantum of maintenance is challenged. This is a question of fact, which has been gone into by the two courts below," the judge said, and dismissed the case.

Dia Mehta answered
According to the Section 482 of the CrPC The powers of the High Court are partly administrative and partly judicial. This section was added as the High Courts were unable to render complete justice even if in a given case the illegality was palpable and apparent.
The section envisages 3 circumstances in which the inherent jurisdiction may be exercised, namely, "to give effect to an order under CrPC, to prevent abuse of the process of the court, and to secure the ends of justice".
