The countryside of The Awadh was dotted with the estates of Taluqdars who for many generations controlled land and power.They had their armed suppertors and build forts as long as they enjoyed the suzerainty of the Nawab and pay for his taluqus.Some of them has 12000 foot soldiers and even the smaller one has 200 foot soldiers.Frequently after the annexation of Awadh the British disarmed the Taluqdars and destroyed their forts.

The British land revenue policy further undermined the position of The Taluqdars.The summary settlement was introduced in 1958 which says that Taluqdars were interlopers They had no permanent stakes on land.They had gained the lànd through land and power.Before the colonial period the Taluqdars held 67% of the total number of villages.By the terms of The summary settlement they held 37%of the total number of villages.The Taluqdars of the Southern Awadh were the hardest hit losing half the number of villages they had previously held.

That's why Taluqdars were angered.
