Problem: The ratio of present age of a father to that of his son is 5:3.Ten years hence the ratio would be 3:2.Find their present age now?

Solution:

Let the present age of the father be 5x and that of his son be 3x.

After ten years, the age of the father will be 5x + 10 and that of his son will be 3x + 10.

The ratio of their age after ten years will be 3:2.

Therefore, we can write:

(5x + 10)/(3x + 10) = 3/2

Solving for x, we get:

10x + 20 = 9x + 30

x = 10

Hence, the present age of the father is:

5x = 5(10) = 50 years

And the present age of the son is:

3x = 3(10) = 30 years

Therefore, the present age of the father is 50 years and that of his son is 30 years.
