A typical leaf consists of mainly three parts a) leaf base b) petiole c) lamina or leaf blade
between the junction of leaf base and petiole we can find the presence of leafy photosynthetic structures called stipules
leaves with stipules are called stipulate leaves
leaves without stipules are called exstipulate leaves
petiole helps the leaf base to attach lamina and holds the lamina
leaves with petiole are called petiolate
leaves without petiole are called sessile
lamina consist of midrid veins and veinlets which provide the mechanical support
