How is the old concept of geography different from new concept of geography?

The old concept of geography included the study of earth, its lands, and its people. The study started in Greece.
Later Islamic scholars developed a system called grid system which helped to make the maps more accurately. Later on China developed magnetic compass for navigation.
The new concept of geography includes study of environment and the ways in which it controls the human behavior.
