Junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET)

Junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET) is a three-terminal semiconductor device that is used as an electronic switch, amplifier, or voltage-controlled resistor.

Behavior of JFET

The behavior of JFET depends on the voltage applied across its terminals. When the gate-to-source voltage (VGS) is zero or negative, the JFET behaves like a resistor with high resistance. However, when VGS is positive, the JFET behaves like an open circuit.

When the JFET is operated in the saturation region, it behaves like a constant current source. However, when it is operated in the cutoff region, it behaves like a constant voltage source.

Small value of VDS

When the small value of drain-to-source voltage (VDS) is applied, the JFET behaves like a resistor. This is because when VDS is small, the channel is not completely pinched off, and the resistance between the drain and source is relatively high. As the drain-to-source voltage increases, the channel gets pinched off, and the resistance between the drain and source decreases.

Negative resistance

Negative resistance is the phenomenon in which the current through a device decreases as the voltage across it increases. However, JFET does not exhibit negative resistance. Therefore, option D is incorrect.

Conclusion

Hence, the correct option is A, JFET behaves like a resistor when a small value of drain-to-source voltage is applied.
