Two generators rated 250 MW and 400 MW are operating in parallel. The droop characteristics of the governors are 4% and 6% respectively.if a load of 450 MW be share between them. What will be the system frequency? Assume nominal system frequency is 60 Hz and no governing action.
  • a)
    56.47 HZ
  • b)
    57.90 HZ
  • c)
    59.23 HZ
  • d)
    51.56 HZ
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Two generators rated 250 MW and 400 MW are operating in parallel. The ...
Let, Load on generator 1 = x MW
Load on generator 2 = (450 – x) MW
Reduction in frequency = Δf
Now,
From equations (i) & (ii), we get
∴ x = 217.81 MW (load on generator 1)
450 – x = 232.18 MW (load on generator 2)
and Δf = 2.09Hz
∴ System frequency = (60 – 2.09) = 57.909 Hz.

Two generators rated 250 MW and 400 MW are operating in parallel. The ...
Given:
- Two generators rated 250 MW and 400 MW are operating in parallel.
- Droop characteristics of the governors are 4% and 6% respectively.
- Load to be shared between them is 450 MW.

To find: System frequency when load is shared between them.

Solution:
1. Determine the total capacity of the generators:
Total = 250 + 400 = 650 MW

2. Determine the droop constant (K) for each generator:
K1 = 100 / 4 = 25
K2 = 100 / 6 = 16.67

3. Determine the load sharing factor (LSF) for each generator:
LSF1 = (250 / 650) / (25 + 16.67) = 0.26
LSF2 = (400 / 650) / (25 + 16.67) = 0.42

4. Determine the power output of each generator:
P1 = LSF1 * 450 = 117 MW
P2 = LSF2 * 450 = 189 MW

5. Determine the total power output:
PT = P1 + P2 = 306 MW

6. Determine the system frequency:
f = 60 - (PT / 650) * 0.6
f = 57.90 Hz

Therefore, the system frequency when the load is shared between the two generators is 57.90 Hz.
