List price of the article = Rs 65 Selling price of the article = Rs 56.16
∴ Discount =65-56.16= Rs 8. 84
∴ Discount per cent =
= 13.6
The first discount of the given discount series is 10%. At the second discount of the series be m%.
∴ Single discount per cent =
⇒136 ⇒ 13.6 = m + 10 −m/10
⇒ 136 = 100+10m − m ⇒ 9m = 36
∴ m = 4
∴ Discount =65-56.16= Rs 8. 84
∴ Discount per cent =

Solution:
Let the other discount be x%.
As per the question, the customer got two successive discounts.
Therefore, the selling price of the article after the first discount = 65 - (10% of 65) = Rs 58.50
Now, the customer got a second discount of x% on this selling price of Rs 58.50.
Therefore, the final selling price of the article after both discounts = 58.50 - (x% of 58.50)
But we know that the customer bought the article for Rs 56.16.
Therefore,
58.50 - (x% of 58.50) = 56.16
Solving this equation, we get
x% = 4%
Hence, the other discount offered by the shopkeeper was 4%.
Answer: Option (a) 4%.

Solution:
Let the other discount be x%.
As per the question, the customer got two successive discounts.
Therefore, the selling price of the article after the first discount = 65 - (10% of 65) = Rs 58.50
Now, the customer got a second discount of x% on this selling price of Rs 58.50.
Therefore, the final selling price of the article after both discounts = 58.50 - (x% of 58.50)
But we know that the customer bought the article for Rs 56.16.
Therefore,
58.50 - (x% of 58.50) = 56.16
Solving this equation, we get
x% = 4%
Hence, the other discount offered by the shopkeeper was 4%.
Answer: Option (a) 4%.
