a) C and D live on the same street.
b) C's house faces south.
c) The houses of C and D are less than 20 km apart.
d) None of the above.

Approach:

We can draw a diagram to represent the given information and solve the problem.

Steps:

1. Draw a rough diagram:

A -------- B

D C

2. Label the diagram:

- A and B represent the houses of two people facing each other.
- D and C represent the houses that A and B reach respectively.

3. Add the directions of travel:

- A travels 5 km west and then turns right (north).
- B also travels 5 km west and then turns right (north).

4. Add the distances travelled:

- A travels 5 km west and then 5 km north to reach D's house.
- B travels 5 km west and then 5 km north to reach C's house.

5. Analyze the diagram:

- From the diagram, we can see that C and D are on the same street going north-south.
- We can also see that C's house faces west (towards A's house).
- The distance between C and D is the distance between A and B, which is 10 km. Hence, the houses of C and D are less than 20 km apart.

6. Answer:
