Induction Generator and Mechanical Speed Calculation

Induction Generator:
An induction generator is an electrical machine that converts mechanical power into electrical power. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. It can operate at a synchronous speed lower than the supply frequency.

Rotor Current Frequency:
The rotor current frequency is the difference between the supply frequency and the generator slip frequency. In this case, the rotor current frequency is given as 5 Hz.

Mechanical Speed of the Rotor:
The mechanical speed of the rotor is the speed at which the rotor rotates. It is given in RPM.

Calculation:
The synchronous speed of a 4 pole induction machine is given as:
Synchronous speed = 120*f/p
where,
f = supply frequency = 60 Hz
p = number of poles = 4

Synchronous speed = 120*60/4 = 1800 RPM

The generator operates at a synchronous speed lower than the supply frequency. Hence, the mechanical speed of the rotor is given as:
Mechanical speed = Synchronous speed - Slip speed

Slip speed = rotor current frequency * synchronous speed / supply frequency
Slip speed = 5 * 1800 / 60 = 150 RPM

Mechanical speed = 1800 - 150 = 1650 RPM

Therefore, the correct answer is option C, which is 1950 RPM.
