Non-Alignment:
Non-alignment has been the cornerstone of India's foreign policy since its independence in 1947. This policy was established by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and aimed at maintaining independence from the two major power blocs during the Cold War - the United States and the Soviet Union. Non-alignment allowed India to maintain its sovereignty and pursue its own national interests without being tied to any particular alliance.

Promoting US Bloc or USSR Bloc:
India did not align itself with either the US or the USSR bloc during the Cold War. Instead, it pursued a policy of non-alignment, which allowed India to engage with both superpowers while maintaining its independence. Although India did have friendly relations with the Soviet Union, it did not become a formal member of the USSR bloc. Similarly, India had diplomatic relations with the United States but did not become a formal member of the US bloc.

Alliance with China:
While India has had historical tensions with China, particularly over border disputes, it has not aligned itself with China in terms of foreign policy. India and China have had periods of cooperation and conflict, but India has maintained its independence and pursued its own national interests in its relations with China.
In conclusion, India's foreign policy of non-alignment has allowed it to navigate the complexities of the international system and pursue its national interests without being tied to any particular power bloc. This policy has served India well in maintaining its sovereignty and independence on the global stage.

India got it's freedom after the 2nd world war . The world was already divided into 2 blocs i.e. Western & Eastern blocs. Supporting either one of them makes you suspicious to the other .So, India decided to go non aligned.
