The Communist Party of India was founded on 26 December 1925 taking inspiration from the Russian Revolution of 1917. A. K. Gopalan, S.A. Dange, E.M.S. Namboodiripad, P.C. Joshi, Ajay Ghosh and P. Sundarraya were among the notable leaders of the CPI.  The founding members of the party were M.N. Roy, Evelina Trench Roy , Abani Mukherji, Rosa Fitingof , Mohammad Ali (Ahmed Hasan), Mohammad Shafiq Siddiqui and M.P.B.T. Acharya.
