The Gupta Period and Literary Works

The Gupta period, which lasted from the 4th to the 6th century CE, is often referred to as the "Golden Age" of ancient Indian history. During this time, there was significant progress in various fields, including literature. Several notable literary works were produced during this period, making it a remarkable era for Indian literature.

Statement 1: Bhasa was the author of a drama called "Dradiracharudatta"

Bhasa was a renowned Sanskrit playwright who lived during the ancient period. He is known for his contributions to the genre of Sanskrit drama. One of his most famous plays is "Dradiracharudatta," which is a romantic comedy. The play revolves around the love story of Charudatta, a poor Brahmin, and Vasantasena, a courtesan. It explores themes of love, friendship, and social class. "Dradiracharudatta" is considered one of Bhasa's finest works and showcases his mastery of dramatic storytelling.

Therefore, statement 1 is correct.

Statement 2: Amarakosha was compiled by Amarasimha

Amarakosha is a renowned Sanskrit thesaurus that provides definitions and synonyms of various words. It was compiled by Amarasimha, a scholar who lived during the Gupta period. Amarakosha is an essential text in the field of Sanskrit linguistics and is often used as a reference by scholars and students. It consists of verses arranged in a poetic manner, making it easier to remember and recall words. Amarakosha covers a wide range of topics, including mythology, literature, art, science, and philosophy. It is still widely studied and appreciated for its comprehensive and systematic approach to word classification.

Therefore, statement 2 is correct.
