Given:

Speed of the particle = 50 km/hr

Time interval from 1:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. = 0.5 hr

Time interval from 1:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. = 0.5 hr

Total time interval from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. = 1 hr

Average speed = ?

Average speed is defined as the total distance travelled by the particle divided by the total time taken.

Total distance travelled by the particle from 1:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. = Speed × Time

= 50 km/hr × 0.5 hr

= 25 km

As the particle was at rest from 1:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., the total distance travelled by the particle from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. = distance travelled from 1:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. = 25 km

Therefore, the average speed of the particle from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. is given by:

Average speed = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

= 25 km / 1 hr
