A positive charge and sphere 2 has a negative charge. If sphere 1 is brought in contact with sphere 2 and then they are separated, what happens to their charges?

When sphere 1 is brought in contact with sphere 2, the charges on the two spheres redistribute. The electrons from sphere 2 will transfer to sphere 1 until both spheres have the same charge. Since electrons have a negative charge, sphere 1 will gain electrons and become negatively charged, while sphere 2 will lose electrons and become positively charged.

After they are separated, sphere 1 will have a negative charge and sphere 2 will have a positive charge.
