The boiling point of para nitrophenol is greater than that of ortho ni...
Explanation:
The boiling point of para nitrophenol is greater than that of ortho nitrophenol due to the difference in their intermolecular forces of attraction.

Intermolecular Forces of Attraction:
Intermolecular forces of attraction are the forces that exist between molecules and determine the physical properties of a substance, such as boiling point, melting point, and solubility.

Hydrogen Bonding:
Hydrogen bonding is a type of intermolecular force that occurs between molecules containing hydrogen atoms bonded to highly electronegative atoms such as nitrogen, oxygen or fluorine.

Para Nitrophenol:
Para nitrophenol has a -OH group and a -NO2 group attached to the benzene ring. In para nitrophenol, the -OH and -NO2 groups are present at opposite ends of the benzene ring. Due to the opposite position of these groups, there is intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the -OH and -NO2 groups of neighboring molecules. This intermolecular hydrogen bonding makes it difficult for the molecules to escape the liquid phase, resulting in a higher boiling point.

Ortho Nitrophenol:
Ortho nitrophenol has a -OH group and a -NO2 group attached to the benzene ring. In ortho nitrophenol, the -OH and -NO2 groups are present at adjacent positions of the benzene ring. Due to the adjacent position of these groups, there is intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the -OH and -NO2 groups within the same molecule. This intramolecular hydrogen bonding makes it easier for the molecules to escape the liquid phase, resulting in a lower boiling point.

Conclusion:
Hence, the boiling point of para nitrophenol is greater than that of ortho nitrophenol due to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding in para nitrophenol and intramolecular hydrogen bonding in ortho nitrophenol.
