Read the following information carefully and answer the given question.
A shopkeeper has 3 different brands of t-shirts, i.e. A, B and C. He has 20 t-shirts of each brand. The total cost price of shirts of brand A is Rs. 6,000 and he made 15% profit on selling 15 such t-shirts and 12% on selling the remaining. The total profit made by selling t-shirts of brand B is 80% of the total profit made by selling all the t-shirts of brand A. The total profit that he made by selling each t-shirt of brand B is 20%. The ratio of total selling price of t-shirts of brand B and the total selling price of t-shirts of brand C is 4 : 5, respectively. The profit made by selling each t-shirt of brand C is 9/4th of the profit made by selling each t-shirt of brand B.
Q. What is the ratio of total cost price of t-shirts of brand B to the total cost price of t-shirts of brand C?
  • a)
    18 : 19
  • b)
    19 : 20
  • c)
    22 : 23
  • d)
    20 : 21
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Read the following information carefully and answer the given question...
Cost price of 20 t-shirts of brand A = Rs. 6000
Cost price of 1 t-shirt of brand A = 6000 ÷ 20 = Rs. 300
We know that he made 15% profit on selling 15 t-shirts of brand A and 12% profit on selling 5 t-shirts of the same brand.
Total profit made by the shopkeeper on selling 20 t-shirts of brand A =  = 675 + 180 = Rs. 855
Now, total profit made by selling t-shirts of brand B = 80% of 855 = Rs. 684
Total profit made by selling t-shirts of brand B = 20%
Let total C.P of t-shirts of brand B = Rs. x
A.T.Q,
0.2x = 684
x = 684 ÷ 0.2 = Rs. 3420
Total S.P of t-shirts of brand B = Rs. 3420 + 684 = Rs. 4104
Profit made by selling t-shirts of brand
Total S.P of t-shirts of brand
Total C.P of t-shirts of brand C = Rs. 5130 - 1539 = Rs. 3591
Required ratio = 3420 : 3591 = 20 : 21

Read the following information carefully and answer the given question...
Total Cost Price of T-shirts of Brand A
The total cost price (CP) of brand A t-shirts is given as Rs. 6,000 for 20 t-shirts.
- Cost Price per T-shirt of A:
CP per t-shirt of A = 6000 / 20 = Rs. 300.
Profit Calculation for Brand A
- Selling Price (SP) for 15 t-shirts with 15% profit:
SP for 15 t-shirts = 15 × (300 + 0.15 × 300) = 15 × 345 = Rs. 5,175.
- Remaining 5 t-shirts with 12% profit:
SP for 5 t-shirts = 5 × (300 + 0.12 × 300) = 5 × 336 = Rs. 1,680.
- Total Selling Price for Brand A:
Total SP = 5,175 + 1,680 = Rs. 6,855.
Total Profit for Brand A: 6855 - 6000 = Rs. 855.
Total Profit from Brand B
- Profit from Brand B:
Total profit from B = 80% of 855 = Rs. 684.
- Profit per T-shirt of Brand B:
Let CP of B be Rs. x. Thus, SP = CP + 20% of CP = 1.2x.
Total profit = 20% of total CP of B, implying profit per t-shirt = 0.2x.
Setting Up the Equation for Brand B
- Total Profit from B:
20 t-shirts yield total profit = 20 × 0.2x = 4x.
Therefore, 4x = 684, leading to x = Rs. 171.
Total Cost Price of T-shirts of Brand B
- Total CP for Brand B:
Total CP of B = 20 × 171 = Rs. 3,420.
Calculating for Brand C
- SP Ratio of B to C:
Ratio is 4:5, hence, if SP of B = 4k, then SP of C = 5k.
- Finding CP of C:
Profit per t-shirt of C = (9/4) × (0.2 × 171) = Rs. 95.25.
Thus, CP of C = SP - Profit = 5k - 95.25.
Final Ratio Calculation
- Set SP of B and find SP of C:
4k = Total SP of B = 3420 + 684 = Rs. 4,104.
Hence, k = 1,026.
SP of C = 5 × 1,026 = Rs. 5,130.
- Find CP of C:
Total CP of C = 20 × (5k - 95.25) = 20 × (5 × 1,026 - 95.25) = 20 × 5,026.75 = Rs. 100,535
