3. Outer core: This layer lies beneath the mantle and extends down to a depth of about 5,150 km. It is composed of liquid iron and nickel, and is responsible for generating the earth's magnetic field.
4. Inner core: This is the innermost layer of the earth, and extends from a depth of about 5,150 km to the center of the earth, which is about 6,371 km deep. The inner core is composed of solid iron and nickel, and is under immense pressure and heat (up to 6,000°C).
