A judge of the Supreme Court may be removed from his current office by an order of the President, on the basis of two grounds:

- Incapacity: if the judge is unable to properly discharge his duties due to physical or mental incapacity.
- Proved Misbehaviour: if the judge has been found guilty of some form of misconduct.

2. Impeachment Process:
The procedure for the removal of judges is regulated by the Judges Enquiry Act (1968). The process for the removal of a judge involves the following steps:

- A notice of motion for the removal of a judge can be introduced in either house of parliament.
- The notice must be signed by at least 100 members of the Lok Sabha or 50 members of the Rajya Sabha.
- The presiding officer of the house in which the notice is introduced will form a three-member committee to investigate the charges against the judge.
- The committee will comprise of two judges of the Supreme Court and one eminent jurist.
- If the committee finds the judge guilty of any charge, then the house in which the motion was introduced may pass an order for the removal of the judge by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members present and voting.

3. No Judge has been Removed:
So far, no judge of the Supreme Court has been removed by impeachment.
