Standard Formula: Suppose A and B are two objects with lengths L1 and L2 respectively, and their speeds are S1 and S2 respectively and moving in opposite direction, then
  • Crossing Time(Ct) = Length of the objects/ Relative speed of the object(s)
Thus, Ct= (L1+L2)/(S1 +S2)
By looking at the above problem, we can say that,
  • L1 = 150 m,
  • L2 = 180 m,
  • S1 = 50 km/hr
  • S2 = 58 km/hr
Relative speed= (S1+S2)= 108 km/hr or (108 * 5/18) m/s = 30 m/s.
Therefore, crossing time Ct= (L1+L2)/ Relative speed
Ct= (150 m+180 m)/ 30 m/s
Ct= 330 m / 30 m/s = 11 seconds

Given information:
- Length of first train = 150 m
- Length of second train = 180 m
- Speed of first train = 50 km/hour
- Speed of second train = 58 km/hour

To find:
- Time taken by the trains to cross each other.

Approach:
- When two trains are moving in opposite directions, the effective length of the two trains is equal to their sum.
- The relative speed of the two trains is equal to the sum of their speeds.
- Using these two facts, we can calculate the time taken by the two trains to cross each other.

Calculation:
- Effective length of the two trains = 150 m + 180 m = 330 m
- Relative speed of the two trains = 50 km/hour + 58 km/hour = 108 km/hour = 30 m/s (by converting km/hour to m/s)
- Time taken by the two trains to cross each other = Effective length of the two trains / Relative speed of the two trains
= 330 m / 30 m/s
= 11 seconds

Therefore, the correct answer is option (a) 11 seconds.
