The nucleus of a radioactive element emits alpha particles which are positively charged. An alpha particle is the nucleus of a helium atom consisting of two protons and two neutrons and carries a charge of +2 on it. The alpha particles cannot travel far from their source since they are quickly brought to rest due collisions with atoms of the surrounding medium but they are capable of causing strong ionization if they travel through a gas.
Hence, the correct option is (B).
