Manicktolla Bomb Conspiracy Case

The Manicktolla Bomb Conspiracy Case is also known as the Alipore Bomb Conspiracy Case. It was a case of revolutionary terrorism that took place in 1908 during the British Raj. The case involved a group of revolutionaries who conspired to assassinate a British judge named Kingsford. The group included famous revolutionaries like Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki.

Background

Kingsford was a notorious judge who had sentenced many Indian nationalists to prison. The revolutionaries decided to assassinate him to avenge his actions. They planned to bomb his carriage when he was travelling from his office to his residence.

Execution of the Plan

On April 30, 1908, Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki went to Muzaffarpur to carry out the plan. However, they mistook the judge's carriage for another one and threw a bomb at it, killing two innocent British women who were travelling in it. The revolutionaries were later arrested and put on trial.

Trial and Verdict

The trial of the revolutionaries was held at Alipore Sessions Court in Calcutta. The British government appointed a special public prosecutor for the case. The trial dragged on for several months, and it attracted a lot of attention from the media and the public.

Finally, Khudiram Bose was sentenced to death, while Prafulla Chaki committed suicide before he could be arrested. The other members of the group were also convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Conclusion

The Manicktolla Bomb Conspiracy Case was a landmark event in the Indian freedom struggle. It highlighted the growing discontent among Indian nationalists towards British rule and inspired many young revolutionaries to join the movement.
