A super heterodyne receiver having RF amplifier is tuned to 1200 kHz,...
Solution:

Given data:

- Tuned frequency of RF amplifier = 1200 kHz
- Intermediate frequency (IF) = 450 kHz
- Quality factor of tuned circuit at RF amplifier and mixer = Q = 65

We know that the image frequency is given by:

f_image = 2 × f_IF - f_RF

where f_RF is the tuned frequency of the RF amplifier.

Substituting the given values, we get:

f_image = 2 × 450 kHz - 1200 kHz = -300 kHz

The negative sign indicates that the image frequency is below the RF frequency.

The bandwidth of the tuned circuit is given by:

BW = f_RF / Q

At RF amplifier, the bandwidth is:

BW_RF = 1200 kHz / 65 = 18.46 kHz

At mixer, the bandwidth is:

BW_mixer = 450 kHz / 65 = 6.92 kHz

The image rejection ratio (IRR) is given by:

IRR = BW_RF / BW_mixer

Substituting the values, we get:

IRR = 18.46 kHz / 6.92 kHz = 2.67

Multiplying by 20 in decibels, we get:

IRR (dB) = 20 log (IRR) = 20 log (2.67) = 7.6 dB

Therefore, the image rejection ratio is between 76 dB and 77 dB (rounded off to the nearest integer).
