Directions: The following questions, two statements numbered I and II are given. On solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Solve for both the quantities and choose the correct option.
Quantity I: Rahul borrowed total of ₹24000 from two persons one part at the rate of 8% while other part at 12% for four years and returns total simple interest of ₹9840 then what is amount borrowed at 12% per annum?
Quantity II: What is curved surface area (cm2) of right circular cylinder having height 72 cm and area of base 2464 cm2?
  • a)
    Quantity I > Quantity II
  • b)
    Quantity I < quantity="" />
  • c)
    Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
  • d)
    Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
  • e)
    Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can't be determined.
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Directions: The following questions, two statements numbered I and II...
Quantity I
Let first part be ₹Y
Second part = ₹(24000 - Y)
Then,
SI = PRT/100
SI = (Y × 8 × 4)/100 + ((24000 - Y) × 12 × 4)/100 = 9840
32Y/100 + ((24000 - Y) × 12 × 4)/100 = 9840
(32Y + 1152000 - 48Y) = 984000
16Y = 168000
Y = 10500
Then, amount borrowed at 8% = ₹10500
Amount borrowed at 12% = (24000 - 10500) = ₹13500
Quantity II:
Area of base = πR2 = 2464
Radius = 28 cm
Curved surface area = 2πRH
Curved surface area = (2 × 22/7 × 28 × 72) = 12672 cm2.
Hence, Quantity I > Quantity II
