Directions: The following questions, two statements numbered I and II are given. On solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Solve for both the quantities and choose the correct option.
Quantity I: What is volume (cm3) of right circular cylinder having curved surface area 6160 cm2 and area of base 3850 cm2?
Quantity II: What is present population of a city if population increases at the rate of 15% and 10% for two consecutive years and becomes 136367?
  • a)
    Quantity I > Quantity II
  • b)
    Quantity I < quantity="" />
  • c)
    Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
  • d)
    Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
  • e)
    Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can't be determined
Correct answer is option 'E'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Directions: The following questions, two statements numbered I and II...
Quantity I
Curved Surface area = 2πRH = 6160 ......... (i)
Area of base = πR2 = 3850
R2 = (3850 × 7)/22 = 1225
Radius = 35 cm
Putting value of R in (i) we get
Height = (6160 × 7)/(2 × 22 × 35) = 28 cm
Volume = πR2H = (22/7 × 35 × 35 × 28) = 107800 cm3.
Quantity II:
Let present population of city be Y
Then,
Y × 115/100 × 110/100 = 136367
Y = (136367 × 10000)/(115 × 110) = 107800
Hence, Quantity I = Quantity II
