Directions: Recently, the answers of a test held nationwide were leaked to a group of unscrupulous people.
The investigative agency has arrested the mastermind and nine other people A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and I in this matter. Interrogating them, the following facts have been obtained regarding their operation. Initially, the mastermind obtains the correct answer-key. All the others create their answer-key from one or two people who already possess the same. These people are called his/her “sources”. If the person has two sources, then he/she compares the answer-keys obtained for both sources. If the key to a question from both sources is identical, it is copied, otherwise it is left blank. If the person has only one source, he/she copies the source’s answer into his/her copy. Finally, each person compulsorily replaces one of the answers (not a blank one) with a wrong answer in his/her answer key.
The paper contained 200 questions; so the investigative agency has ruled out the possibility of two or more of them introducing wrong answers to the same question. The investigative agency has a copy of the correct answer key and has tabulated the following data. This data represents question numbers.
Which one of the following must have two sources?
  • a)
    A
  • b)
    B
  • c)
    C
  • d)
    D
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

This is how the ball rolls.
A person who has no blank answers must have had just 1 source.
The wrong answer such a person made intentionally of his own accord.
A copied his answer sheet from the mastermind and intentionally made question 46 wrong.
D copied his answer from the mastermind and intentionally made Q 17 wrong.
G copied his answer key from the mastermind and intentionally made Q 25 wrong.
Now, as H has both Q 46 and Q 92 wrong, he copied his answer key from A and intentionally made Q 92 wrong.
Same applies for E as well.
Now, it is to be noted that although E and H have their question 46 wrong, as they both copied it from A, the answer key to question 46 for both will be the same.
Thus, anybody who copies from E and H both will not know that it is incorrect and will copy the wrong answer key and shall not leave it blank.
Now, F must have copied from E and H.
As E and H have different answers for questions 90 and 92, F leaves them blank.
F copies the wrong answer key to question 46 and intentionally makes question 14 wrong of his own accord.
Now I copy his answer key off D and E and intentionally make question 27 wrong.
C copies off I and intentionally makes question 56 wrong of his own accord.
B copies his answer key off E and G and intentionally makes Q 96 wrong.
Thus, only F and B must have copied from 2 sources.
As F is not given as an answer choice, the obvious answer choice is B
Thus, answer option 2 is correct.

The Supreme Court has restated the basic principles of granting bail while ordering the conditional release of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram in the INX Media 'money-laundering' case. That these principles required fresh iteration indicates a problem in the way courts have been handling certain applications for bail in recent times. In a case largely turning on documentary evidence - and one being probed by two agencies concerning the same transactions - it was quite astonishing that the former Minister was incarcerated for over 100 days, even after being subjected to prolonged custodial interrogation. As rightly pointed out by the three-judge Bench, bail remains the norm and its refusal the exception. The denial of bail is directly related to the possibility that a remand prisoner who has been released may not appear before the court to face trial. As securing the presence of a suspect is the primary ground for keeping a person in judicial custody prior to trial, there is no reason to jail someone who is unlikely to abscond.Another valid reason is the potential for a person to tamper with evidence or influence and threaten witnesses. Therefore, courts considering bail are required to conduct a triple test to find out if a person is likely to hinder the trial by fleeing from justice, tampering with evidence, or influencing witnesses. The apex court has conceded that sometimes the gravity of the offence may be an additional consideration, but underscored that it cannot be used to deny bail based on allegations yet to be tested in a trial. It is a matter of concern that larger issues of due process have to be revisited each time a public figure is arrested in the course of investigation, giving rise to a perception of political vendetta. Investigative agencies would be better advised to focus on gathering relevant material and moving for an early trial. The legal system is already in place for expedited trial against political leaders through special courts. There is no necessity to vitiate the process through dramatic arrests and prolonged pre-trial imprisonment.Q. Under the SC/ST Atrocity Act bail is completely barred. Mohan abused 'X', a person of SC community. He is arrested under the SC/ST Atrocity Act. Whether Mohan should be granted bail or be jailed?
