Question:

How many females are there in the family of four people P, Q, R and S, consisting of a married couple and two children?

Statement I: P is the father of S. S is the sister of Q.

Statement II: R is the mother of Q.

Solution:

To answer the question, we need to know the number of females in the family.

Statement I: P is the father of S. S is the sister of Q.

From this statement, we can say that there are at least two females in the family, i.e. S and Q, but we cannot determine whether the married couple includes any females. Hence, statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement II: R is the mother of Q.

From this statement, we can say that there is at least one female in the family, i.e. R, but we cannot determine the gender of the other child, S, or the married couple. Hence, statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Combining both statements, we know that there are at least two females in the family, i.e. R and either S or Q. However, we still cannot determine the gender of the other child or the married couple. Hence, the data in both the statements I and II is not sufficient to answer the question.

Therefore, the correct answer is option 'C'.

Conclusion:

The provided data in both statements is not sufficient to answer the question. We need more information to determine the gender of all four people in the family.
