- Let the speed of the boat be x km/hr in still water
- Let the speed of the stream be y km/hr

Calculations:
- Speed of the boat upstream = (x - y) km/hr
- Speed of the boat downstream = (x + y) km/hr
- Time taken to cover 187 km upstream = 187/(x - y) = 34 hours
- Time taken to cover 187 km downstream = 187/(x + y) = 22 hours
- Solving the above two equations gives x = 5 km/hr and y = 3 km/hr
- Time taken to travel 33 km upstream = 33/(5 - 3) = 16.5 hours
