The number of students in the different classes in the years 2005-06 and 2006-07 are
It is known that 60 students joined the school in 2006−07. As we know that students can join only in class 6, these 60 students should have joined in class 6. Of the total class of 85 students of class 6 in 2006−07, if 60 are newly joined students, the remaining 25 students must be those who failed in class 6 in 2005−06. Now, of the total class of 120 students, if 25 have failed, the remaining 95 students must have passed and hence should have advanced to class 7 of 2006−07.
Similarly, in the class of 125 students of class 7 of 2006−07, if only 95 students are from class 6 of previous year, the remaining 30 must be from class 7 of previous year, i.e., who failed in class 7 of previous year. Similarly, we can calculate the values for the remaining classes also and all this can be represented as follows.
The maximum number of students failed in class 7.
Hence, the correct option is (b).
