Apomictic seeds are those which are formed without undergoing the process of sexual reproduction.
In sexual reproduction, meiotic divisions take place for the formation of male and female gametes. Due to these meiotic divisions, recombination and crossing over takes place because of which the new cells formed have chromosomal material from both the parents. Due to this it is quite possible that the progeny of these plants might not be as superior as their parents as they could acquire inferior traits as well because segregation of characters takes place.
Therefore, if hybrid apomictic seeds are formed, there will be no fertilization process in the development of seeds which will result in the seeds being genetically identical to their parents. This will assist in restoring the hybrid characteristics of the parent plant in all of its seeds. These seeds can be used by farmers over many years to obtain good yield.
