Direction: The following question are accompanied by two statements (I) and (II). You have to determine which statements(s) is/are sufficient/necessary to answer the following question.
A bag contains a total of (x + 5) balls of three colours of Blue, Pink, and Red such that the ratio of number of Pink and Red balls is 3 : 2 respectively and the probability of drawing a Blue ball is
2/5. Find the number of balls in the bag.
I: Probability of drawing a Pink ball is 9/25.
II: The number of Blue balls in the bag is 8 more than the number of Red balls.

Direction: The following question are accompanied by two statements (...
Let the number of Pink and Red colour balls be 3y and 2y respectively.
So, the number of Blue balls = (x + 5) – (3y + 2y)
⇒ (x – 5y + 5)
Probability of drawing Blue balls =
⇒ 25y = 3x + 15 ………(1)
From Statement I : Probability of drawing a Pink ball =
⇒ 75y = 9x + 45
⇒ 25y = 3x + 15 ……..(2)
Both the equations are same.
So, this statement is not sufficient.
From Statement II : (x – 5y + 5) = 2y + 8
⇒ 7y = x - 3 ……..(3)
From (1) and (3), we get
⇒ y = 6
So, 7 × 6 = x – 3
⇒ x = 45
Therefore, the total number of balls = 45 + 5 = 50
So, Statement II is sufficient
Hence, the correct option is (B).
