Statement I: The probability of choosing two green gloves from the box is 1/19.
Statement II: The ratio of the red gloves to blue gloves is 2 : 3 respectively.
  • a)
    The data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
  • b)
    The data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question

Let the number of green gloves = x
From I:
Probability of choosing two green gloves = 1/19
So, according to the question,
= (xc2)/(20c2) = 1/19
= (xc2)/(190) = 1/19
= 5c2/190 = 1/19
= 10/190 = 1/19
= 1/19 = 1/19
So, the value of x = 5
Thus, the number of green gloves = 5.
Now number of red and blue gloves = 20 – 5 = 15
From II:
Number of blue gloves is = 15 × 3/5 => 9
Thus, the required probability is = [(5c1) × (9c1)]/20c2
= (5 × 9)/(10 × 19) =>9/38.
Hence, Both Statement I and Statement II together are necessary to answer the question.
Hence, option e) is the correct answer.
