The people of India agitated against the arrival of Simon Commission b...
The correct answer is option 'C'. The people of India agitated against the arrival of the Simon Commission because there was no Indian member in the commission. Let's discuss this in detail:

Background:
- The Simon Commission, officially known as the Indian Statutory Commission, was appointed in 1927 to review the working of the Government of India Act of 1919 and suggest reforms.
- The Act of 1919 had introduced limited reforms in the governance of British India, including the introduction of dyarchy (diarchy) in the provinces, which shared power between elected Indian ministers and appointed British officials.

Explanation:
1. Lack of Indian representation:
- The primary reason for the agitation against the Simon Commission was the absence of any Indian member in the commission.
- The commission consisted of seven British members, all of whom were considered outsiders and not representative of Indian interests.
- This lack of Indian representation was seen as an insult to the Indian people and their aspirations for self-governance.

2. Demand for Indian involvement:
- The Indian National Congress and other political parties demanded that the commission should include Indian members who could effectively represent the interests and aspirations of the Indian people.
- The absence of Indian representation was seen as a deliberate attempt by the British government to ignore the voices of the Indian people and maintain their control over the governance of India.

3. Assertion of Indian self-governance:
- The Indian freedom movement was gaining momentum during this period, and the arrival of the Simon Commission was seen as an opportunity to press for further reforms and self-governance.
- The absence of Indian members in the commission was seen as an attempt to suppress the demands for self-governance and perpetuate British control over India.

4. Boycott and protests:
- In response to the neglect of Indian representation, the Indian National Congress and other political parties called for a boycott of the Simon Commission's proceedings.
- Protests, demonstrations, and strikes were organized across the country to express the discontent and demand the inclusion of Indian members in the commission.

Conclusion:
The agitation against the arrival of the Simon Commission in India was primarily due to the absence of Indian representation in the commission. The Indian people felt that their aspirations for self-governance were being ignored, and the commission's recommendations would not adequately address their concerns. The demand for Indian involvement and the boycott of the commission's proceedings reflected the growing assertiveness of the Indian freedom movement and the desire for genuine representation in the political process.
