CA Foundation Exam Pattern
The CA Foundation exam is the first level of the Chartered Accountancy course in India. It is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) twice a year, in May and November. The exam pattern of the CA Foundation level is as follows:
Mode of Examination:
- The exam is conducted in offline mode, i.e., pen and paper-based.
Medium of Examination:
- The question paper is available in both English and Hindi.
Number of Papers:
- The CA Foundation exam consists of four papers.
Subjects and Marks Distribution:
- Paper 1: Principles and Practices of Accounting (100 marks)
- Paper 2: Business Laws and Business Correspondence and Reporting (100 marks)
- Paper 3: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics (100 marks)
- Paper 4: Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge (100 marks)
Exam Duration:
- Each paper has a duration of three hours.
Question Paper Format:
- The question paper consists of both objective and subjective type questions.
- Paper 1 and Paper 2 have subjective questions, whereas Paper 3 and Paper 4 have objective questions.
- There is negative marking for subjective questions, but no negative marking for objective questions.
Passing Criteria:
- To pass the CA Foundation exam, candidates need to score a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers.
Preparation Tips:
- Understand the exam pattern and syllabus thoroughly.
- Create a study schedule and allocate time for each subject.
- Practice solving previous years' question papers and mock tests.
- Focus on understanding concepts and principles rather than rote learning.
