Scoring of Individual Sections in GMAT Exam


1. Verbal Section:

The Verbal section of the GMAT exam assesses a candidate's ability to comprehend written material, evaluate arguments, and correct written material. It consists of 36 multiple-choice questions that need to be completed in 65 minutes. The Verbal section is scored on a scale of 0 to 60.

2. Quantitative Section:

The Quantitative section of the GMAT exam evaluates a candidate's mathematical skills and ability to analyze data. It consists of 31 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 62 minutes. The Quantitative section is also scored on a scale of 0 to 60.

3. Integrated Reasoning Section:

The Integrated Reasoning section of the GMAT exam measures a candidate's ability to interpret and analyze complex data from multiple sources. It comprises 12 questions that need to be completed in 30 minutes. The Integrated Reasoning section is scored on a scale of 1 to 8.

4. Analytical Writing Assessment:

The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section of the GMAT exam evaluates a candidate's ability to analyze and articulate complex ideas. It consists of one essay in which the candidate needs to analyze an argument. The essay is scored by both an automated essay-scoring engine and a human grader. The scores given by both are averaged to give the final AWA score, which ranges from 0 to 6.

Overall GMAT Score:

The individual scores of each section are combined to calculate the overall GMAT score, which ranges from 200 to 800. The Verbal and Quantitative sections contribute to the overall score, while the Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing sections have separate scores.

Score Reporting:

After completing the exam, the unofficial scores of the Verbal and Quantitative sections are immediately provided. However, the official scores, including the Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing sections, are sent to the candidate and the designated programs within 20 days. The scores are valid for five years.
