Marking Scheme for IIT JAM Chemistry Answer Key

The IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.) is a national level entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to various postgraduate science programs, including Chemistry. The marking scheme used in the IIT JAM Chemistry answer key is as follows:

Positive Marking:
- For 1 mark multiple-choice questions (MCQs), 1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
- For 2 marks MCQs, 2/3 mark is deducted for every incorrect response.
- There is no negative marking for sections with no negative marking mentioned in the question paper.

Zero Marking:
- For Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), no marks are deducted for incorrect answers.

Partial Marking:
- Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions have a different marking scheme.
- For 1 mark NAT questions, there is no negative marking.
- For 2 marks NAT questions, there is no negative marking.
- Partial marking is awarded for certain NAT questions if only the correct numerical value is provided without the correct units.
- The partial marking for NAT questions is decided by the respective subject committees.

Calculation of Score:
- The total score is calculated by adding and subtracting the marks obtained in each section based on the marking scheme mentioned above.
- The final score is calculated out of 100 marks, irrespective of the total number of questions.
- The score obtained by the candidate determines their rank in the IIT JAM Chemistry examination.
