Superconductivity:
It is a phenomenon of exactly zero electrical resistance and expulsion of magnetic flux fields occurring in certain materials, called superconductors when cooled below a characteristic critical temperature (TC).
Superconductors considered perfect diamagnets (χ = −1), because they expel all magnetic fields (except in a thin surface layer) due to the Meissner effect.
It is characterized by the Meissner effect, the complete ejection of magnetic field lines from the interior of the superconductor during its transitions into the superconducting state.
Properties of a superconductor:
  • Zero resistivity
  • Infinite conductivity
  • Perfect Diamagnetic Behavior
  • Expulsion of Magnetic Field (Meissner Effect)
BCS theory: It explains the phenomenon in which a current of electron pairs flows without resistance in certain materials at low temperatures. Therefore, according to this theory a super conductor has bound electronic pairs within it.
Silsbee’s rule: It defines the critical value of the magnetic field above which superconductors lose their superconductivity. Soft magnetic material has sharp (only 1) critical value of the magnetic field.
