working nd function of heart
Verified Answer
working nd function of heart
Heart is the muscular organ located in the chest cavity. It is slightly situated tilted towards left.

Structure:
Human heart is divided into two halves, each side of heart has two chamber.
The two upper chambers are called atria or auricles and two lower chambers are called ventricles. There are valves between the auricles and the ventricle on each side.
The right auricle opens into the right ventricle and the left auricle into left ventricle. There are no valves between two auricles or ventricles. As a result, the blood in the right side of heart remains completely separated from left side of heart. The valves allow blood to flow only in one direction and there is no mixing of oxygenated blood ( rich in oxygen) with deoxygenated blood.( rich in CO2).

Function:
The heart acts as pump and brings about movement of blood in the body. All the atria and ventricles of the heart contract and relax at appropriate times and makes the heart behave like pump.since ventricles have to pump blood into various organs with high pressure they have thicker walls than atria. Arteries , veins and capillaries are called as blood vessels.

Introduction to the Heart
The heart is a vital organ responsible for circulating blood throughout the body. Its primary function is to pump oxygenated blood to tissues and organs while returning deoxygenated blood to the lungs for oxygenation.
Anatomy of the Heart
- The heart consists of four chambers:
- Left Atrium
- Right Atrium
- Left Ventricle
- Right Ventricle
- The heart is divided into two sides:
- Left Side: Pumps oxygen-rich blood to the body.
- Right Side: Pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs.
Function of the Heart
- Pumping Action:
- The heart contracts and relaxes rhythmically, maintaining blood flow.
- It uses electrical impulses to coordinate contractions.
- Circulatory Pathways:
- Systemic Circulation: Blood flows from the left ventricle to the aorta, delivering oxygen to the body.
- Pulmonary Circulation: Blood returns to the right atrium, then moves to the right ventricle, which pumps it to the lungs.
Regulation of Heart Function
- The heart rate is influenced by the autonomic nervous system:
- Sympathetic Nervous System: Increases heart rate during stress or exercise.
- Parasympathetic Nervous System: Decreases heart rate during rest.
Conclusion
The heart is essential for sustaining life by ensuring continuous blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients, and removing waste products. Understanding its anatomy and function is crucial for recognizing its role in overall health.
