Q.Name the term that can collectively refer to consist of all living a...
All the living and non-living things that surround an organism make up its environment. The living or the biotic components include the life forms surrounding the organism. These may include plants and other organisms (some of which may be its prey, while some may be its predators). Similarly, the non-living or abiotic things surrounding an organism include the likes of temperature, soil, moisture, wind, light, etc.

The survival and existence of the organism is dependent on its environment and its relationship with the biotic and abiotic components. An organism is able to survive in its environment, if it adapts to these conditions, else it will have to move to a different environment or it will die out. For example, deer can only survive in a grassland, if the weather & soil (abiotic components) is conducive to growth of grass, there is less competition from other deer (biotic components) and it escapes predation by tiger & other predators (biotic components).

Environment

The term that can collectively refer to consist of all living and nonliving things that surround an organism is known as the environment. It can be defined as the sum total of all biotic and abiotic factors that influence the survival, growth, and reproduction of living organisms.

Explanation:

The environment can be broadly classified into two main components:

1. Biotic Components: These are the living components of the environment that include all living organisms such as plants, animals, microorganisms, etc. They interact with each other and with the abiotic components of the environment to form complex ecosystems.

2. Abiotic Components: These are the non-living components of the environment that include air, water, soil, sunlight, temperature, climate, etc. They provide the physical and chemical conditions necessary for the survival and growth of living organisms.

The environment also includes various natural resources such as forests, minerals, water, etc. that are essential for the sustenance of life. The environment is a dynamic system that is constantly changing due to various natural and human-induced factors such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, etc.

Importance of Environment:

The environment plays a crucial role in the survival and well-being of all living organisms. It provides various ecosystem services such as air and water purification, nutrient cycling, pollination, etc. that are essential for maintaining the balance of nature.

The environment also provides various resources that are essential for human well-being such as food, water, shelter, energy, etc. However, human activities such as pollution, deforestation, overexploitation of resources, etc. are causing significant harm to the environment, leading to various environmental problems such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, etc.

Conclusion:

The environment is a complex system that includes both living and non-living components. It plays a crucial role in the survival and well-being of all living organisms, including humans. It is important to conserve and protect the environment to ensure a sustainable future for all.
