- The Silappadikaram is one of the most outstanding works of Tamil literature and a text of deep cultural value. The Silappadikaram consists of 5370 lines composed in the akavalmetre. Tradition ascribes the authorship of the text to Ilango Adigal, who is believed to be a Jaina by faith and the younger brother of the Chera king Senguttuvan, Hence statement 1 is not correct.
- The story of Silappadikaram begins in the city of Puhar in the Chola kingdom with the wedding of ‘Kannagi’ and ‘Kovalan’, children of prominent merchants, then it travels through their journey into to the Kingdom of Pandyas where they both try to start their new life after some mishaps in their relationship due to Kovalan’s affair with a courtesan named ‘Madhavi’, In Madurai, Kovalan was killed due to a wrong persecution order by the Pandya King Nedunchezhiyan, for which Kannagi walks into his court and argues the injustice caused to her due to the King’s erroneous order to prosecute her husband, her anger engulfed the whole Madurai city in fire and after this she moved to Chera Kingdom (Present day Kerala), where she became a goddess and worshipped till now, There is no reference of Pallavas in this Epic as it was compiled well before the Kingdom came into existence. Hence statement 2 is not correct.
