- Option (a) is correct Supplementary Notes PRANA Portal Recently the Union environment minister launched a portal called PRANA. PRANA Portal will be used to track the progress of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in order to comply with India’s commitment to ensure clean air and blue skies to everybody. This portal was launched on the occasion of ‘International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies’ in non-attainment cities (NAC).
- Non-attainment cities are those cities that failed to meet the National air quality standards in a five-year period. With India’s efforts, 86 cities showed a better air quality in 2019 and it increased to 104 cities in 2020. The Environment ministry and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) seeks to achieve 20- 30 percent reduction in particulate matter (PM10 as well as PM2.5) concentrations in India by 2024.
- In order to achieve the target, India has prepared and is implementing city-specific action plans to improve air quality in 132 NACs/Million Plus Cities. It targets city-specific air polluting sources like soil & road dust, vehicles, MSW burning, domestic fuel, construction material and industries. PRANA portal will help in tracking physical and financial status of city air action plan implementation. It will also disseminate information on air quality to the public.

PRANA Portal - Tracking Progress of National Clean Air Programme (NCAP)
The PRANA Portal, recently launched by the Union Environment ministry, is associated with tracking the progress of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in order to comply with India's commitment to ensure clean air and blue skies to everybody. Here's a detailed explanation:
Importance of PRANA Portal:
- The PRANA Portal plays a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the NCAP, which aims to reduce particulate matter (PM) pollution by 20-30% in 102 cities across India.
- It provides a platform for real-time data monitoring, analysis, and reporting on air quality management in these cities.
Features of PRANA Portal:
- The portal enables the tracking of key performance indicators of the NCAP, such as ambient air quality data, emissions inventory, compliance status of industries, and progress of city-specific action plans.
- It facilitates the integration of data from various sources, including Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS), manual monitoring stations, and other relevant stakeholders.
Benefits of PRANA Portal:
- By providing a centralized platform for data management and analysis, the PRANA Portal enhances transparency, accountability, and coordination among different agencies involved in air quality management.
- It enables policymakers to make informed decisions, allocate resources effectively, and take timely actions to achieve the goals of the NCAP.
Overall, the PRANA Portal is a significant step towards improving air quality in India and ensuring a healthier environment for its citizens.
