- Solid:
In a solid state, the particles are closely packed together in a fixed arrangement. They vibrate in place but do not move past each other. The strong intermolecular forces between the particles hold them in a fixed position, making solids rigid and difficult to compress. The particles in a solid are already close together, so there is very little empty space between them.

- Liquid:
In a liquid state, the particles have more freedom of movement compared to solids. They can slide past each other, but they are still close together. The intermolecular forces in liquids are weaker than in solids, allowing for some compression. However, liquids are still relatively incompressible compared to gases because the particles are still close together.

- Gas:
In a gas state, the particles have the highest amount of kinetic energy compared to solids and liquids. They are in constant random motion and are far apart from each other. The intermolecular forces in gases are very weak, allowing the particles to move freely and occupy a larger volume. Due to the large empty spaces between gas particles, gases are highly compressible. When pressure is applied to a gas, the particles can be easily forced closer together, reducing the volume occupied by the gas.

Therefore, out of the three states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas), gas is the most easily compressible state due to the large spaces between particles and the weak intermolecular forces.
