Given information:
- Amount of carbon burnt completely = 1.2 gm
- Gases produced = CO and CO2
- The mixture is treated with solid 1205 to know the amount of CO produced
- The liberated iodine required 120 ml of 0.1 M hypo solution for complete titration

To find: The percentage of carbon converted into CO

Solution:
1. Balanced chemical equation for the combustion of carbon:
C + O2 -> CO2
2C + O2 -> 2CO (since both CO and CO2 are produced, it means that there was a limited supply of oxygen)
2. Calculation of moles of iodine used in the titration:
0.1 M hypo solution means that 0.1 mole of hypo solution is present in 1 liter of solution
So, the number of moles of hypo solution used = 0.1 x 0.12 L = 0.012 moles
From the balanced chemical equation, it is clear that 1 mole of iodine is required for the titration of 1 mole of CO
Therefore, the number of moles of CO produced = 0.012 moles
3. Calculation of moles of carbon converted into CO:
From the balanced chemical equation, it is clear that 2 moles of CO are produced from 2 moles of carbon
Therefore, the number of moles of carbon converted into CO = 0.012 x 2 = 0.024 moles
4. Calculation of percentage of carbon converted into CO:
The initial amount of carbon burnt completely = 1.2 gm = 1.2/12 = 0.1 moles (since the atomic mass of carbon is 12)
Therefore, the percentage of carbon converted into CO = (0.024/0.1) x 100 = 24%
However, the question asks for the percentage of carbon converted into CO and not the percentage of CO produced from carbon
From the balanced chemical equation, it is clear that 1 mole of CO is produced from 1 mole of carbon
Therefore, the percentage of carbon converted into CO = 24 x 1 = 24%

Hence, the correct answer is option D (70%).
