Both the latitudinal and longitudinal extent of India’s mainland...
It is because as we move towards the poles, the extent between two longitudes decreases, that means they come closer and closer. This is however not the case with latitudes.Therefore though the numerical difference between latitudes and longitudes of India is same, it covers more land from North to South as compared to from East to West.

The latitudinal extent of India is approximately 8°4'N to 37°6'N. This means that India stretches from about 8 degrees north of the equator to about 37 degrees north of the equator.

The longitudinal extent of India is approximately 68°7'E to 97°25'E. This means that India stretches from about 68 degrees east of the prime meridian to about 97 degrees east of the prime meridian.
