    Thyroid
  • b)
    Adrenal cortex
  • c)
    Adrenal medulla
  • d)
    Testes
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Pituitary gland does not control the secretory activity of :-a)Thyroid...
Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) are secreted by an anterior pituitary gland that targets thyroid gland and adrenal cortex respectively to produce their hormones. Interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH) promotes secretion of androgens from testes. Secretory activity of adrenal medulla is under control of sympathetic nerve fibers of the nervous system.

Pituitary gland does not control the secretory activity of :-a)Thyroid...
The correct answer is option C, the pituitary gland does not control the secretory activity of the adrenal medulla.

The Pituitary Gland and Its Functions:
The pituitary gland is often referred to as the "master gland" because it controls the functions of several other endocrine glands in the body. It is a small, pea-sized gland located at the base of the brain, just below the hypothalamus. The pituitary gland is divided into two main parts: the anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis) and the posterior pituitary (neurohypophysis).

Control of Secretory Activity:
The pituitary gland is primarily regulated by the hypothalamus, which is a part of the brain that produces and releases various hormones. The hypothalamus secretes different hormones that either stimulate or inhibit the release of hormones from the pituitary gland.

The anterior pituitary gland produces and secretes several hormones that control the activity of other endocrine glands. These hormones include:

1. Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH): This hormone stimulates the thyroid gland to produce and release thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolism and growth.

2. Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH): ACTH stimulates the adrenal cortex, the outer layer of the adrenal gland, to produce and release cortisol, a stress hormone.

3. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH): These hormones regulate the reproductive system in both males and females. In males, FSH stimulates the testes to produce sperm, while LH stimulates the production of testosterone. In females, FSH and LH control the menstrual cycle and ovulation.

4. Growth Hormone (GH): GH stimulates growth and development in children and regulates metabolism in adults.

The adrenal medulla, which is the inner part of the adrenal gland, is not directly controlled by the pituitary gland. Instead, it is regulated by the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body's response to stress and emergencies. The adrenal medulla produces and releases adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are involved in the "fight-or-flight" response.

In conclusion, the pituitary gland does not control the secretory activity of the adrenal medulla. Instead, the adrenal medulla is regulated by the sympathetic nervous system. The pituitary gland primarily controls the secretory activity of the thyroid, adrenal cortex, and testes through the production and release of specific hormones.
