Verified Answer
The three governments of Allende’s Chile, Walesa’s Poland ...
Allende preferred government control on all big industries and the economy. Walesa wanted the market to be free of government interference. Michelle stands somewhere in the middle on this issue. Yet these three governments shared some basic features. Power was exercised by governments elected by the people and not by the army, unelected leaders or any external power. The people enjoyed some basic political freedoms.

1. Government of Salvador Allende (1970-1973): Salvador Allende was a socialist politician who was elected as the President of Chile in 1970. His government implemented a series of socialist reforms, including nationalization of key industries, land redistribution, and increased social welfare programs. Allende's government faced significant opposition from right-wing and conservative groups, as well as from the United States government, which sought to undermine his socialist agenda. In 1973, Allende's government was overthrown in a military coup led by General Augusto Pinochet.

2. Government of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990): Following the military coup in 1973, General Augusto Pinochet established a military dictatorship in Chile. Pinochet's government was characterized by authoritarian rule, systematic human rights abuses, and neoliberal economic policies. Pinochet implemented free-market reforms, privatized state-owned companies, and reduced government intervention in the economy. His government also suppressed political dissent, censored the media, and carried out widespread human rights violations, including torture, disappearances, and executions. Pinochet's rule ended in 1990 with a transition to democracy.

3. Government of Michelle Bachelet (2006-2010, 2014-2018): Michelle Bachelet is a socialist politician who served as the President of Chile for two non-consecutive terms. During her first term, Bachelet focused on social policies, including education reform, healthcare improvements, and reducing poverty. She also implemented measures to address gender inequality and promote women's rights. After leaving office in 2010, Bachelet served as the Executive Director of UN Women. She was re-elected as President in 2014 and continued her social policies, as well as focusing on environmental issues and constitutional reform. Bachelet's second term ended in 2018, and she currently serves as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
