No difference. But table salt is added with iodine (KIO3) to address iodine deficiency disorders prevailing in general public. It is mandatory to add iodine to the edible salt. Difference between Normal Salt and Common Salt

Introduction:
Salt is an essential component of our diet and is widely used in cooking and food preservation. It is primarily composed of sodium chloride (NaCl) and is available in various forms. Two commonly used types of salt are normal salt and common salt. While they may seem similar, there are a few key differences between them.

Normal Salt:
Normal salt refers to the salt that is obtained from sea water or rock deposits. It undergoes minimal processing and retains its natural minerals and impurities. Here are some characteristics of normal salt:

1. Mineral Content: Normal salt contains a variety of minerals and trace elements in addition to sodium chloride. These minerals include magnesium, calcium, potassium, and iodine, which may be present in small amounts. They contribute to the flavor and nutritional value of the salt.

2. Impurities: Normal salt may contain impurities such as sand, clay, and other minerals that are naturally present in sea water or rock deposits. These impurities do not pose any health risks but can affect the texture and appearance of the salt.

Common Salt:
Common salt is the refined form of salt that is commonly used in households. It undergoes a refining process to remove impurities and minerals, resulting in a purer form of sodium chloride. Here are some characteristics of common salt:

1. Purity: Common salt is highly purified, with most of the impurities and minerals removed during the refining process. It is usually more than 99% pure sodium chloride.

2. Texture and Appearance: Common salt has a fine texture and appears white and crystalline. It is free from any visible impurities, making it visually appealing.

Key Differences:
Now let's summarize the key differences between normal salt and common salt:

1. Mineral Content: Normal salt contains various minerals and trace elements, whereas common salt is primarily composed of sodium chloride.

2. Impurities: Normal salt may contain impurities like sand and clay, while common salt is refined to remove such impurities.

3. Nutritional Value: Due to its mineral content, normal salt may offer additional nutritional benefits compared to common salt.

4. Texture: Normal salt may have a coarser texture due to impurities, while common salt is finely ground and has a smooth texture.

5. Availability: Normal salt is less commonly found in households and is often used in specialized culinary applications, while common salt is widely available and commonly used in cooking and food preservation.

In conclusion, the main difference between normal salt and common salt lies in their mineral content, impurities, texture, and availability. Both types of salt can be used in cooking, but the choice depends on personal preference and specific dietary requirements.
