Problem Statement: Rs 100 is to be divided among 6 men, 12 women, and 17 boys. If 2 men get as much as 5 boys and 2 women as much as 3 boys, find how much each boy will get?

Solution:

We can solve this problem by using simultaneous equations.

Let x be the amount each boy gets, then we can write the following equations:

1. 2m = 5x (2 men get as much as 5 boys)
2. 2w = 3x (2 women get as much as 3 boys)
3. m + w + b = 35 (total number of people is 35)
4. 6m + 12w + 17b = 100 (total amount is Rs 100)

Now, we can use equations 1 and 2 to eliminate m and w from equations 3 and 4:

3. (2m/5) + (2w/3) + b = 35 (substitute equations 1 and 2)
4. 6(2m/5) + 12(2w/3) + 17b = 100 (substitute equations 1 and 2)

Simplifying these equations, we get:

5. 6m + 10w + 15x = 175 (multiply equation 3 by 15)
6. 12m + 8w + 17x = 100 (multiply equation 4 by 17/5)

Now, we can eliminate w from equations 5 and 6 by multiplying equation 5 by 4 and equation 6 by 5 and then subtracting them:

7. 24m + 40w + 60x = 700 (multiply equation 5 by 4)
8. 60m + 40w + 85x = 500 (multiply equation 6 by 5)

9. 36m + 25x = 180 (subtract equation 7 from equation 8)

Finally, we can solve for x by substituting equation 1 into equation 9:

10. 36(2x/5) + 25x = 180 (substitute equation 1)

Simplifying equation 10, we get:

11. 72x + 125x = 450 (multiply both sides by 5)
12. 197x = 450
13. x = 450/197

Therefore, each boy will get Rs 2.28 (approx)
